Ranger of the Year Finalists 2003

GMA recipients 2003

Welcome to the North Capital Royal Rangers Website! What a fun and exciting time boys have in Royal Rangers.  Royal Rangers, experience an adventure like no other. They explore and  learn about many exciting things including camping, hiking, backpacking, and much, much more. As Boys earn their way along the advancement trail they are recognized in each achievement that they accomplish. These awards are worn on their Royal Rangers uniform for all to see.

If you are interested in the Royal Rangers program, many thrilling adventures await you; so what are you waiting for? On the Section Outposts page we have listed many of the churches that have Royal Ranger Outposts in our section.  If you are attending a church in the North Capital Section that does not have an Outpost and would like to start one, email Bryan Thacker and we will do our best to help you get established!  As a recruit in the Royal Ranger program, you must learn the Royal Rangers Pledge, the Code and the Motto.

It is the purpose of Royal Rangers to “Reach, Teach and Keep boys for Jesus Christ.”  We are extremely committed toward this purpose.   Every advancement that a Royal  Ranger achieves includes spiritual training and

education. It is our prayer to develop the total boy for Christ.  We hope that you are here to stay.

The North Capital Section is committed to the Outposts in this Section.  This Section sponsors 3 merit campouts a year, 1 ranger kids campout a year, the annual Skate Night, Section Pinewood Derby and events at the Summer Ranger Camp (Pow Wow).

One of the Merit camps that we have had was called the Trail Of The Grizzly merit camp.  This camp focused on earning 4 merits of the 6 merits required to join FCF (Frontiersman Camping Fellowship); a part of Royal Rangers that focuses on preparing men and boys for ministry - Lay ministry, Pastoral ministry, or as a missionary.  The merits the boys earned were Rope craft, Lashing, Tool Craft, and Compass.  It was incredible to see 70 miniature Chippewa Kitchens being built at the same time.  We learned how to properly pass knives, axes, and other sharp tools.  We learned how to tie many knots.  We learned how to use the compass to follow instructions, and how to find landmarks on a map.

The Ranger Kids had a great time at their camp hunting for Big Foot, defending the money bag from train robbers, and filling the coal car.  The Theme

was the trains of the old west.  You can ask the boys why Bigfoot hides from people (he got teased a lot about his size).   This led to discussions about why we should not tease each other.

Another merit camp we had was our Winter Camp where we earned our Winter Camping Merit.  This camp had us learning winter first aid, building snow shelters (and sleeping in them), snow shoe hiking, and of course playing in the snow.  We learned how to properly dress for the snow and had a great time figuring out how to snow shoe!  The trick is to simply get used to falling down!  Sleeping in a snow shelter is not really that bad.  It was warm enough that it was difficult waking up the boys!

We are currently planning this years camps and it looks like we will have a very exciting year!  Be sure to check out our pictures.  If you are interested in these camps, we love talking about them.  Drop an email to Bryan with the best way to reach you and we will be in touch.  North Capital Commanders, if there is anything you would like to see on this website that would be helpful to you, your boys, your Outpost, or Church; please let me know and I (Henk) will do my best to make it happen.
